Guidesheet: Having a Family Discussion about Differences as Strengths

It is so important for students to be able to make connections with their own life experiences in order to truly understand concepts we talk about in class.

Please demonstrate this with your student by sharing a story from your own life that amplifies why it is important to recognize and utilize each person’s individual differences. Our differences can be our strengths and the most important assets in our lives.

Example:

Discuss a unique skill you had/have such as whittling, storytelling, collecting, etc. and how it was/is advantageous to other people in the community.

Discuss a unique ability you had/have such as dancing, climbing, etc. and how it was/is helpful to other people in the community.
